Flight Planning

  • Create flight plan through SimBrief.
  • Generate Operational Flight Plan (OFP)

Go to EFB → Aircraft

Refuelling

  • Import SimBrief OFP Payload (minimums)
  • Refuel Speed → set to REALISTIC
  • Adjust fuel to allow extras.
  • Start Refuelling.

Boarding

  • Boarding Speed → Realistic
  • Gate Type → Stairs or Jetway
  • GSX (optional)

Power

  • thru GPU or Jetway

Power Up

Refer to checklist on Yoke.

  • Circuit Breakers → CHECK
  • Fuel Levers → both SHUT
  • Landing Gear → DOWN
  • Battery → ON
  • Volt → SELECT
  • BAT → SELECT (min 24V)
  • External Power / GPU → ON (if available)

Decide whether to turn on APU.

  • APU Fire Test → PRESS (check illuminated)
  • APU Fire Switch → CONFIRM LOCKED/GUARDED position
  • APU Selector → ROTATE START, then ON
  • APU Avail → wait for illumination
  • APU Bleed → ENABLED (default)
  • IRS → set both to NAV
  • Emergency Lights → ARM
  • NAV/LOGO Lights → ON

Preflight

Refer to checklist Yoke.

  • PAX Oxygen → CHECK; GUARDED position
  • Oxygen Mask → RESET TEST both sides
  • PFD/ND → ADJUST BRIGHTNESS
  • MFD → ADJUST BRIGHTNESS
  • FMC → ADJUST BRIGHTNESS

Initiate alignment sequence thru FMC.

  • HDG/STS → select to check remaining minutes
  • INIT → PRESS
  • Departure/Arrival → ENTER ICAO

Use Departure/Arrival ICAO without slash and enter through Company Route to import settings directly from SimBrief.

  • Enter gate coordinates (LAT and LONG)
  • Go to Airport Charts > Search Taxi > Parking Stand Coordinates
  • Use UP or DOWN arrows to enter coordinates.
  • Align IRS → PRESS to confirm and wait for alignment to complete (refer to HDG/STS)

Run tests

  • Engine Fire Test → HOLD to Engine 1 position; repeat for Engine 2
  • Status Message → CLEAR manually
  • APU Fire → RUN (if not started APU early)
  • Smoke Test → RUN (check two SMOKE lights)
  • Annunciator Test → RUN (check illumination)
  • GPWS Test → RUN (short press for quick test)
  • Warning System Test → RUN
  • Cockpit Voice Recorder (CVR) → turn ON
  • CVR Test Button → press to test and check needle movement

Takeoff Calculations

Go to Takeoff page.

  • Departure ICAO → ENTER
  • Runway → SELECT
  • Runway Length → select meter or feet
  • T.O. Shift (reduce avail) → when using runway intersections
  • Runway Slope → automatically filled when choosing runway
  • Flap → AUTO (will calculate based on Flap 0)
  • Anti-Skid → OPERATIVE
  • Wind, QNH, and OAT → IMPORT LIVE WX
  • Runway Surface → DRY (or WET?)
  • Anti-ICE → OFF (used when outside temperature is 10 degrees or less and when there’s visible moisture — fogs, low-level clouds, etc.)
  • Takeoff Weight → Enter Zero Fuel Weight plus Total Fuel Weight
  • Force TOGA → NO (default)
  • Calculate → PRESS to view outputs

Flight Deck Setup

  • Overhead Panel
  • EFIS Panel
  • Main Panel
  • Pedestal

Overhead Panel 1

  • Avionics → CVR ON
  • Flight Augmentation → ALL LIGHTS OUT
  • Hydraulic → ALL LIGHTS OUT
  • Calls → TEST
  • Seatbelt → ON (once fuelling is complete)

Overhead Panel 2

  • CVR Test → DONE
  • TEST → DONE
  • Engine Fire → PUSHED IN
  • Electrical → BATTERY ON (no lights illuminated except for external power / GPU in use)
  • Anti-Icing → ALL SWITCHED OFF
  • Exterior Lights → NAV/LOGO ON

Overhead Panel 3

  • IRS Mode Select → NAV position
  • Cargo Fire switches → GUARDED
  • PAX Oxygen → GUARDED
  • Engine Fire 2 switch → PUSHED IN
  • Fuel L1, L2, R1, R2 → OFF
  • Engine → Lights OUT; NORM position
  • Pressurization Panel → Landing Altitude SET
  • Cabin → Zero Differential Pressure and Altitude Elevation

Overhead Panel 4

  • APU Fire Switch → GUARDED
  • Air Conditioning → PUSHED IN (no lights illuminated)
  • Probe Heat → PITOT HEAT OFF
  • Window Heat → switch ON
  • Wiper → OFF
  • APU → AS NEEDED
  • Emergency Lights → ARMED

EFIS Control Panel

Switch the Flight Control OFF and ON to be able to see NAV displays without hiding the Yoke.

EFIS Control Panel 1

  • Mode Selector → PLAN (flight plan), MAP (default), ARC (VOR/ILS), ROSE (VOR/ILS)
  • APP/VOR → Approach is ILS; VOR is VOR
  • Range Selector → with B modes showing what’s behind you; 15 (standard), 30, 60, 120, 240 NM intervals
  • Minimum Selector → Flight Path Angle (FPA), M/DA (for departure, leave at 0), or Decision Height (DH)
  • Brightness Selectors for PFD/ND
  • Map Modes → Constraints, Airport, and Traffic (standard)
  • Altimeter Switch → toggle between QNH and Standard (STD)
  • Weather Radar Brightness → turn OFF while near the gate

EFIS Control Panel 2

  • Flight Director → turn ON

EFIS Control Panel 3 (Officer Side)

  • Set as EFIS Control Panel 1

Main Panel

  • ADF 1 and 2 → AS REQUIRED
  • Elapsed Time → RESET
  • Attitude Indicator → ALIGN
  • Standby Engine Indicato (SEI) → keep OFF
  • QNH → SET
  • Autobrake → OFF (cannot be set until engine is on)
  • Landing Gear → DOWN
  • Red Button → OUT
  • Backup Caution Panel → keep OFF
  • Brake Temperature → on Turnaround, use CHOCKS if temp is HOT to cool brakes down

Pedestal

  • Light Controls → AS REQUIRED
  • Audio Control Panel → VHF 1 and VHF 2
  • Cabin and PA → AS REQUIRED
  • Anti-Skid → ON
  • Door → LOCK/UNLOCK
  • Parking Brake → SET
  • Radio → SET FREQUENCY AS NEEDED
  • ADF → AS REQUIRED
  • Weather → TILT 5 degrees, Weather + Turbulence (WX+T)
  • VOR/ DME tuner → AS REQUIRED

To tune VOR/DME, use PROG on FMC

  • Thrust Rating Panel (TRP) → TBC
  • Transponder → set to STANDBY while in preflight
  • TCAS indicator → set to ABOVE
  • Squawk CODE → 2000 while at the gate
  • ATC/FID → enter CALLSIGN (press and hold CLR to enter value)
  • ILS Receiver → enter frequency and course
  • VHF 2 Radio → SET EMERGENCY FREQUENCY and COMPANY FREQUENCY (on standby)
  • Stick Pusher Switch → IN
  • ADF 2 → AS REQUIRED
  • HF COM → AS REQUIRED
  • VOR/DME 2 → AS REQUIRED
  • Rudder Trim → MIDDLE
  • Aileron Trim → MIDDLE
  • Flight Control Lock → ON/OFF AS REQUIRED
  • Alternate Landing Gear Control → DOWN position

Avionics (FMC) Setup

For quick import, enter Departure/Arrival without a slash thru CO RTE / FLT to import data from SimBrief.

INIT page

  • From / To → enter DEP/ARR ICAO
  • ALTN → enter alternate destination
  • Align IRS → PRESS (if still showing)
  • Cost Index → refer to flight plan
  • Cruise Flight Level → refer to flight plan
  • Temp/Tropo → refer to TOC temp on
  • Cruise Wind → refer to Average Wind on flight plan

F-PLN page

Refer to routing on OFP.

  • Select departure.
  • Enter SID and Runway
  • Select Transition (if available)
  • Enter Airways
  • for DCT, enter straight waypoints
  • to delete anything, press CLR and select item to delete
  • Select arrival.
  • Enter STAR and Runway
  • Select Transition (if available)

Review flight plan against charts using plan mode including speed and altitude constraints.

  • Altitude → refer to chart / initial climb clearance (add 100 feet for quick reference until clearance is received)
  • IAS / M → set max SPEED
  • Bank Angle → set to NORMAL
  • Heading (HDG) → keep dashed
  • SEC F-PLN → NOT SIMULATED

INIT B

  • Press INIT, then NEXT PAGE
  • Block → refer to OFP
  • ZFW → refer to OFP
  • TOGW → check Takeoff Weight under Performance App / Takeoff page.
  • Reenter Takeoff weight and recalculate outputs
  • Flight Level → check MAX, OPT, CRZ (make sure cruise is lower than max and close to optimal)
  • Final / Time → set to 30mins

TO / APPR

  • Enter V1, VR, and V2 speeds (refer to performance calculations)

PROG page

  • Enter VOR (if available)
  • Enter departure runway (to see bearing and distance to that runway)

Once boarding has been completed, reconfirm weights (ZFW, TFW, and GW) on EFB and FMC.

  • Reenter weights (consider operational impacts in OFP)
  • Set speed bugs (VFTO, V1/VR, V2).
  • Flex temperature → SET (refer to FLEX/TOGA on performance app)
  • Confirm EPR and FLEX temp on display panel.

Before start procedure

  • Request pushback clearance.

If the APU has not been started yet, start APU.

  • External Power / GPU → DISCONNECT
  • Parking Brake → SET
  • Chocks → REMOVE
  • Seatbelt → ON
  • Fuel Pumps (L1, R1, L2, R2) → ON
  • Probe Heat → ON
  • Takeoff Data → SET
  • FMC Display 1 → show Takeoff page
  • FMC Display 2 → show Flight Plan page
  • Transponder → switch to ALT OFF setting or XPNDR (depending on where you are)
  • Windows and Doors → verify CLOSED
  • ARM Doors → ENABLE on EFB/Aircraft

Once pushback clearance has been received.

  • Beacon Lights → ON
  • Overhead Panel → Completely dark (no illumination) except for Flight Recorder / Voice Recorder Ground Control Switch (FDR/CVR GND CTL)
  • Cockpit Door → LOCKED
  • Parking brake → RELEASE

Start pushback.

Starting engines

Standby Engine Indicator → turn ON

  • Engine Master → switch ON
  • Ignition selector → set to NORM
  • Engine 2 → PULL to start engine 2
  • N2% → CHECK (increasing)
  • N1% → CHECK (increasing)
  • Fuel switch → ENABLE (once N2% at 15%)
  • Turbine Gas Temperature (TGT) → CHECK TEMP (increasing)

Once engine 2 has stabilized (N2% at roughly 54%), repeat steps to start Engine 1.

Once pushback has been completed, set Parking Brake.

Once both engines are running.

  • Engine Master switch → turn OFF

After start / Before taxi procedure

  • Anti-ice → SET AS NEEDED
  • APU → switch OFF
  • Alert Lights → CHECK (display panel) or use backup panel
  • SEI → turn OFF
  • Flaps → AS NEEDED
  • Trims → SET (refer to EFB/Aircraft TO CG%)
  • All ground equipment → REMOVED

Taxi Procedure

Request taxi clearance.

Use Airport Charts or Enroute Chart to view live taxi chart.

  • Taxi Light → switch ON
  • Parking Brake → RELEASE
  • Throttle → just enough to move the aircraft
  • Brake → CHECK
  • Speed (apron) → 15 knots
  • Speed (turns) → 10 knots
  • Speed (straight) → 30 knots

EFIS

  • NAV mode → SET
  • PROF mode → SET (for vertical navigation)

Use strobe lights when about to cross a runway while taxiing.

  • Fuel levers → both UP
  • Lift Dumpers → ARM
  • Squawk → VERIFY
  • Transponder → SELECTED
  • Flight control → UNLOCK
  • Yoke → TEST (free and moving; pull up, down, left, and right)
  • Rudder → TEST (free and moving)
  • Autobrake → set to RTO position (move thrust to idle first; otherwise INOP)
  • Takeoff config button → NORM (no alert)
  • Brake temperature → CHECK (no HIGH temperature)
  • Taxi-out checklist → RUN (from YOKE)

While approaching threshold.

  • Call Button → PRESS
  • Calls → RECEIVE when ready.

Turn off Strobe Lights when crossing runway has been completed.

Before Takeoff Checklist

Request takeoff clearance.

  • Run before takeoff checklist.
  • Cabin → CALL
  • Takeoff Cabin → CHECK
  • Brake temperatures → CHECK
  • Strobe lights → turn ON
  • Landing Light → turn ON
  • Autothrottle → switch ON
  • TCAS → set to TARA
  • Weather Radar → turn ON Brightness

Move and line up to runway.

Takeoff Procedure

Check the following:

  • EPR → set throttle to 1.30 (to stabilise engines)
  • Autothrottle → ARM
  • TOGA → ACTIVATE
  • Pitch → 18 degrees
  • IAS → set MAX SPEED initial climb (refer to SID)
  • CLB, IAS, and NAV → ON DISPLAY

Ready to takeoff.

  • Timer → ACTIVATE
  • Throttle → set to EPR 1.30 to stabilise
  • TOGA → ACTIVATE
  • Yoke → push forward
  • Thrust Display → confirm as per FLEX temp.
  • VR → Rotate; pitch at 18 degrees
  • Landing Gear → GEAR UP (positive rate of climb)
  • Autopilot → ENGAGE

If using flaps, refer to FMC/Takeoff page for retract value.

During climb.

  • VFTO → check GREEN DOT on PFD
  • Target Heading → check PFD

Passing transition altitude

  • Altimeter → set to STD (past transition altitude)
  • Altitude → SET to cruise level (cross check on PFD)

Passing 10,000 feet.

  • Landing Lights → turn OFF/RETRACT
  • Seatbelt → OFF (check clear skies?)

FMC

  • Flight Plan → CHECK
  • Mode → CHECK
  • Tactical Mode → CHECK
  • Progress/ Fuel Prediction → CHECK (estimated remaining fuel at destination airport)

EFIS

  • Speed knob
  • Heading knob

Cabin Pressurization Panel

  • Differential Pressure → CHECK
  • Cabin Altitude → CHECK
  • Cabin Rate of Climb → CHECK

Use Engine Anti-Ice (preventative measure) when TAT at 10deg or less. Use Wing and Tail Anti-Ice (reactive measure) when ice is visible.

Rate of Climb (maximums)

  • Use 3,000 feet per minute if there’s 3,000 feet to go.
  • Use 2,000 feet per minute if there’s 2,000 feet to go.
  • Use 1,000 feet per minute if there’s 1,000 feet to go.

Cruise Procedure

Upon reaching top of climb.

  • TCAS mode selector → set to BELOW
  • Tilt Radar → minus 1
  • Check time reaching TOC.
  • Check remaining fuel on board (FOB).
  • Refer to OFP to compare time and fuel.

Start descent procedure at roughly 100NM from top of descent.

  • Do another fuel check on the next waypoint to compare estimate.
  • Check fuel distribution → enable X-Feed to balance fuel (when gap exceeds 300kg; turn off fuel pump on low side)
