Powering up the aircraft

  • Fuel levers → check both in SHUT position
  • Landing Gear → DOWN
  • Batteries → ON
  • Display → BAT
  • Volt Button → DEPRESSED (confirm minimum 24 volts)

Before starting the APU — APU FIRE section.

  • APU FIRE DISCH → OFF (with red guard closed)
  • AGENT LO → EXTINGUISHED

On the test panel…

  • APU FIRE TEST → DEPRESS

Start APU

  • APU start selector → ON, PULL, and START
  • IRS MODE SELECT → set to NAV
  • FMS → press INIT key
  • FROM/TO → enter ICAO code
  • ALIGN IRS → press

Pre-flight checks

  • Emergency Lights → ARMED
  • NAV/LOG Lights → ON
  • Oxygen Panels → RESET/TEST
  • SMOKE TEST → perform test
  • A-SKID TEST → perform test
  • GPWS TEST → perform test
  • WARN SYS TEST → perform test
  • FDR/CVR GND CTRL → ON

Cockpit Voice Recorder section

  • CVR Test → perform CVR test (confirm needle movement)

On the Calls section…

  • NO SMKG → ON
  • Seatbelt → OFF (should remain OFF until refuelling is complete)

Refuelling and Passenger Boarding

Select refuelling icon.

  • Total Fuel Weight → ENTER VALUE
  • Refuelling Speed → set to REALISTIC
  • Start refuelling

Select passenger icon

  • ZERO FUEL WEIGHT → ENTER VALUE
  • Boarding Speed → set to REALISTIC
  • Gate Type → set to STAIRS
  • START BOARDING → PRESS

Enable AUTO CABIN CREW to automatically open the passenger doors at the start of boarding and close them again once boarding is complete. If the AUTO CABIN MUSIC and CABIN ANNOUNCEMENT options are enabled, they will also trigger boarding music and/or crew announcements at various stages of the flight.

With boarding and refuelling under way, head back to FMS to continue entering flight plan and performance parameters.

INIT A page

  • INIT key → PRESS
  • Alternate Airport (ALTN) → ENTER ICAO
  • Flight Number → ENTER
  • Cost Index → ENTER
  • Cruise Flight Level → ENTER

INIT B page

  • Block Fuel → ENTER
  • Zero Fuel Weight → ENTER

Flight Plan

  • F-PLN → PRESS
  • Enter flight plan.
  • ND mode selector → set to PLAN
  • Review flight plan.

Take-Off Performance Calculations

On the EFB, open Performance App → Takeoff Page

  • Use import option or enter data manually.
  • Departure ICAO → ENTER
  • Runway → ENTER
  • Import Aircraft → PRESS
  • Import Live WX → PRESS
  • Calculate → PRESS
  • Export Weights
  • Export to Speeds
  • Export TOGA/FLEX

FMS

  • TO / APPR → PRESS
  • Takeoff Speeds → Enter or import thru EFB Performance App

On the Pressurization panel.

  • Altitude → SET

On the Probe Heat panel.

  • Window Heat → ON

EFIS Control Panels

  • ND mode → MAP
  • ND range selector → 15B
  • Display option pushbuttons → CSTR and TRFC
  • PFD/ND Brightness → SET

Flight Mode Panel (FMP)

  • Flight Director → ON
  • V2 selector → NORMAL
  • Departure Speed → SET IAS/M
  • Altitude → SET

Main instrument panel.

  • Gyro → PULL
  • Altimeter → SET
  • Flight Deck Lights → AS REQUIRED
  • Flap → UP
  • Speed Brake → IN
  • Fuel Levers → both SHUT

On the Thrust Rating Panel.

  • TRP → FLX
  • FLX Temp → per Flex/TOGA calculations

On the Transponder panel.

  • ATC/FID → PRESS
  • Flight Number → SET
  • ATC/FID → return to ATC mode

On the Weather Radar Panel.

  • Gain → SET to 12 o’clock position
  • Mode Selector → SET to WX+T or WX
  • Tilt Selector → SET to at least 5 degrees UP

Before engine start

Once both IRSs have aligned and passenger boarding and refuelling is complete, we can start to work through the Before starting checks.

  • Seatbelt → ON
  • Fuel Pumps (L1, L2, R1, and R2) → ON
  • Probe Heat → ON
  • Window Heat → ON (check/confirm)

On the pedestal.

  • Transponder → XPNDR
  • Exterior Doors → CLOSED (check MFDS Status for door messages)
  • CHOCKS → REMOVE
  • Cockpit Door (F-DK DOOR) → DEPRESS
  • Beacon Lights → ON

Engine start

  • Pushback → CONNECT (thru EFB)
  • Parking Brake → RELEASE
  • Complete pushback.
  • Parking Brake → ENGAGE
  • Pushback → DISCONNECT

On the captain’s main instrument panel.

  • Standby Engine Indicator (SEI) → ON

On the ENGINE section of the overhead panel.

  • START → ON
  • Ignition → NORM
  • Engine → 2
  • Fuel Lever → OPEN (once 15% N2 is indicated)

Repeat above steps for starting engine 1.

With both engines running, depress the START push-button to OFF and confirm that the ON light extinguishes.

  • START → OFF
  • SEI → OFF
  • APU → OFF
  • Flaps → 0
  • Stabiliser Trim → refer TO CG%

Taxi

  • Taxi Light → ON
  • Cabin → SECURE

On the FMP

  • ATS → ARM
  • NAV → ARM
  • PROF → ARM

On the pedestal.

  • Lift Dumpers → ARM
  • Flight Control Lock → OFF
  • Primary Flight Controls → PERFORM FULL AND FREE MOVEMENT (ailerons, elevator, rudder)
  • Autobrake → RTO

Approach holding point and bring aircraft to a stop and apply parking brake.

On the overhead panel.

  • ALL ATTND → DEPRESS

On the pedestal.

  • TAKE OFF CONF → DEPRESS (confirm T-O CONFIG NORM memo)

As we are about to enter the runway.

  • Landing Lights → ON
  • Strobe Lights → ON
  • Taxi Light → OFF
  • Transponder → TA/RA

Takeoff

  • Brakes → HOLD
  • Thrust Levers → 1.30 EPR
  • Brakes → RELEASE
  • TOGA → ACTIVATE
  • VR → ROTATE; raise nose approx 8 degrees
  • Positive Climb → GEAR UP
  • NAV and PROF modes → ENGAGED
  • Speed → maintain V2+10 or 18 degrees pitch
  • Autopilot → DEPRESS AP1
  • AP and ATS → ENGAGED
  • NAV and PROF → ENGAGED

Climb

  • at 1,500 ft → TRP mode will automatically change from FLX to CLB
  • ALL ATTND → PRESS to inform flight attendants that it is safe to begin their duties.
  • Altimeter → set to STD (once transition altitude has been reached)

If ATC permits, use LVLCH mode to overrule the altitude constraint.

Above 10,000 ft

  • Landing Lights → OFF
  • Seatbelt → OFF
  • ND range selector

Cruise

  • ALT HOLD mode → will automatically engage upon reaching preselected cruise altitude

Use MODE and TACT MODE pages of the FMS to change cruise speed.

  • Cabin Pressurization → CHECK IF STABLE
  • Landing Altitude → SET LANDING ALTITUDE

On the FMS, press the PROG key to open the progress page.

  • Present Position → MONITOR
  • Distance to Destination → MONITOR
  • Currently tuned navaids → MONITOR
  • Fuel predications → MONITOR

Descent

  • ILS frequency → SET
  • ILS course → SET

On the EFIS control panel.

  • APP/VOR → DEPRESS APP
  • PFD → checkj the localiser and glidescope scales; will now be visible and the indicators will come alive once within range of the ILS
  • DH selector → set to M/DA
  • Barometric Decision Height → SET

On the Pressurization Panel.

  • Landing Altitude → SET LANDING ALTITUDE

On the Performance App, select LANDING page.

  • Populate all the INPUT fields
  • Autobrake → set value to LO, MED, or HI (to use maximum braking)
  • Import LIVE WX
  • Calculate → PRESS to generate our landing performance.
  • Autobrake → LO (low setting)

On the FMS, press TO/APPR key to open the Approach page.

  • Flaps → 42 (default landing setting)
  • Wind Correction → SKIP (if less than 10 knots)

Next, press PROG to open PROGRESS page.

  • Open DES FORECAST page
  • Enter the wind for destination airport.
  • Enter winds for other altitudes throughout the descent

As you approach 15 NM from the calculated top of descent point, decrease the preselected altitude on the FMP to the first altitude restriction on descent profile.

  • Altitude knob → PULL to arm DES (descent) mode.

Approach and Landing

Passing through 10,000 ft

  • Seatbelt → switch ON
  • Landing Lights → ON (all three main)

Use DIR key on the FMS to open the Direct-To page to trigger a Direct-To from the aircraft present position to the selected waypoint.

  • Altitude → set to final approach on the FMP and engage LVLCH mode

At transition altitude

  • ALTM → DEPRESS (QNH)
  • Barometric Pressure → ADJUST PER AIRFIELD
  • Speed → REDUCE
  • Flaps → SET
  • Land Mode → ENGAGE (to capture localiser and glidescope once within range)
  • ALL ATTND → PRESS
  • Landing Gear → DOWN
  • Lift Dumpers → ARM
  • FLAPS → AS REQUIRED
  • Speed → AS REQUIRED (VMA + 5kt)
  • FLAPS → 42
  • Speed → VAPP
  • Landing checklist → PERFORM
  • CABIN → WARNED
  • Altimeters → SET
  • FMP altitude → set to missed approach altitude
  • Landing Gear → CONFIRM (DOWN AND ALL THREE GREEN LIGHTS ILLUMINATED)
  • Lift Dumpers → CONFIRM ARMED (blue light illuminated)
  • Flaps → CONFIRM SET TO FLAPS 42 (PFD SHOWING CORRECT FLAPS SETTING)

Passing through 500 ft

  • Option 1: Use Autoland → can be performed if the autoland conditions have been met (LAND 2 annunciator will be displayed)
  • Option 2: Disconnect autopilot and autothrottle and fly the remainder of the approach manually.

At 30 feet.

  • Thrust Levers → IDLE
  • Begin to flare, gently raising the nose just above the horizon
  • Touchdown

After touchdown

  • Reverse Thrust → ENGAGE
  • Gently lower the nose-wheel onto the runway.
  • Lift Dumpers → will deploy automatically

At 60 knots

  • Reverse Thrust → DISENGAGE
  • Manual Braking → APPLY (to disengage AUTOBRAKE)
  • Slow the aircraft down further to taxi speed, using manual brake applications.
  • Once the aircraft has slowed, take the first available taxiway.
  • Once safely off the runway, carry out Taxi in checklist.

Taxi

  • Landing Lights → OFF
  • Strobe Lights → OFF
  • Taxi Light → ON
  • APU → ON, then START
  • Weather Radar → set both WXR brightness knobs to OFF
  • Transponder mode → XPNDR
  • Flaps → UP
  • Lift Dumpers → DEPRESS LIFTD ARM
  • Yoke → push fully forward
  • Flight Control Lock → ON
  • Begin taxiing to the nearest available gate

Shutdown

  • Taxi Light → switch OFF when turning into the gate
  • Parking Brake → ENGAGE once the aircraft has come to a complete stop.
  • APU AVAIL → CONFIRM light illuminates on the APU panel
  • Engine Fuel Levers → both SHUT
  • Seatbelt → OFF
  • Beacon Light → OFF (once the engines have shut down)
  • Fuel Pumps (L1, R1, L2, and R2) → OFF
  • Pitot Heat and Window Heat switches → OFF
  • CRT displays → DIM
  • Chocks → ENABLE (thru EFB)
  • FWD PAX and CARGO Doors → OPEN (ready for deboarding)
  • Start DEBOARDING

Leaving the aircraft

  • Run termination checklist (cold and dark state)
  • IRS mode selectors → OFF
  • All display units → set BRIGHTNESS to OFF
  • Exterior Lights → OFF
  • Emergency Lights → OFF
  • APU → OFF, then wait 70 seconds.
  • Batteries → OFF
