How to start a blog on WordPress

This guide walks you through the entire process — from choosing a domain to publishing your first post.

1. Pick a domain name.

Your domain is your blog’s address on the internet (example: aldwinzalameda.com).

Pick something simple, memorable, and easy to type.

Choose a short, memorable domain that reflects your identity or topic; register it through a trusted provider.

Once you’ve chosen a name, register it through a domain provider like Namecheap.

This gives you ownership of the domain so you can connect it to your hosting later.

2. Set up hosting.

Hosting is where your website files live.

To run WordPress, you need a hosting provider that supports it — companies like ChemiCloud.

After signing up, you will receive login details for your hosting dashboard or cPanel.

3. Connect your domain to your hosting.

If your domain and hosting are from different companies, you need to point your domain to your hosting account.

This is done by updating your nameservers in your domain registrar (e.g., Namecheap) to the nameservers provided by your hosting company.

Once updated, your domain will load your WordPress site.

4. Install WordPress.

ChemiCloud uses cPanel and Softaculous, which means you can install WordPress in just a few clicks — no technical skills required.

After installation, you will be able to log in to your WordPress dashboard at:

yourdomain.com/wp-admin

  • Log in to your dashboard to begin customizing.
  • Back up installation using cPanel softaculous.
  • Delete default content — sample post and page.
  • Delete unused themes.

5. Choose a clean, modern, and minimal theme.

Your theme controls how your blog looks.

Select a simple, readable design that supports your writing style and keeps your blog fast and uncluttered.

You can install themes under Appearance → Themes → Add New.

6. Configure essential settings.

Before writing your first post, adjust a few important settings:
