OBS settings for HDR recording

Open OBS and go to Settings.

  4. Advanced

Output

Go to Settings > Output > Recording.

Recording settings:

  • Recording Path > Set to your preferred recording path.
  • Recording Format > Matroska Video (.mkv) then remux to MP4
  • Video Encoder > NVIDIA NVENC HEVC
  • Audio Encoder > FFmpeg AAC
  • Audio Track > 1
  • Rescale Output > Disabled

Encoder settings:

  • Rate Control > CQP
  • CQ Level > 16
  • Keyframe Interval > 2s
  • Preset > P7: Slowest (Best Quality)
  • Tuning > High Quality
  • Multipass Mode > Two Passes (Quarter Resolution)
  • Profile > main10
  • Look-ahead > unchecked
  • Psycho Visual Tuning > checked
  • GPU > 0
  • Max B-frames > 2

Audio

Go to Settings > Audio.

General:

  • Sample Rate > 48 kHz
  • Channels > Stereo

Global audio devices:

  • Desktop audio > Select your audio device.
  • Mic/Auxiliary Audio > Select your mic input.

Video

Go to Settings > Video.

  • Base (canvas) resolution > 3840×2160 (your display resolution).
  • Output (scaled) resolution > 2560×1440 (your preferred output).
  • Downscale filter > Lanczos (sharpened scaling, 36 samples)
  • Common FPS values > 60

Advanced

Go to Settings > Advanced.

General:

  • Process priority > Normal

Video:

  • Renderer > Direct3D 11
  • Colour format > P010 (10-bit, 4:2:0, 2 planes)
  • Colour space > Rec. 2100 (PQ)
  • Colour range > Limited
  • SDR white level > 300 nits
  • HDR nominal peak level > 1000 nits

Video (non-HDR):

  • Renderer > Direct3D 11 (default)
  • Colour format > NV12 (8-bit, 4:2:0, 2 planes) (default)
  • Colour space > Rec. 709 (default)
  • Colour range > Full
  • SDR white level > 300 nits (default)
  • HDR nominal peak level > 1000 nits (default)

Recording:

  • Automatically remux to MP4 > checked

Sources

Go to Sources > Game Capture (for PC) > Properties.

  • RGB10A2 Colour Space > Rec. 2100 (PQ)

Go to Sources > Video Capture Device (Elgato 4K60 Pro MK.2 for PS5) > Properties.

  • Colour Space > Default
  • Colour Range > Default
