In this tutorial, I’m going to show you how to install a theme in WordPress.
Genesis + Child Theme
On this website, I use the Genesis Framework from StudioPress and a free Child Theme created by Brian Gardner – founder of StudioPress.
If you’re using a Genesis theme, you will need to install the framework first and then the Child Theme on top of that.
Here are the steps:
- Go to Appearance > Themes
- Upload a Theme
- Activate the theme
Let’s get started.
Step 1. Go to Appearance > Themes
On your WordPress dashboard, go to Appearance > Themes.
Then click Add New > Upload Theme.
Step 2. Upload a Theme
Be sure to upload the theme in ZIP format.
Step 3. Activate the Theme
After installing Genesis, click Activate to start using the theme.
Next, install the Child Theme on top of the Genesis Framework.
When you go back to the Themes page, you will get an alert to install a child theme.
Just follow the same steps above to install the child theme.
When you’re done, don’t forget to activate the child theme as well.
That’s it! You can now view your website and start customizing the newly installed theme.
