Checklist

Before starting engine:

  • Generators > OFF
  • Battery master switch > ON
  • APU > ON
  • APU RPM > 100%
  • Fuel pump 1 > ON
  • Ignition > ON
  • Fuel pump 2 > ON
  • Ignition > ON

Starting engine:

  • Engine 1 start switch > LEFT
  • Engine 2 start switch > RIGHT
  • Generators > ON
  • APU > OFF

Engine Startup (Cold and Dark) – Full Procedure

  • Parking Brake > ON
  • Battery switch > ON

On the PFMD, go to Menu > CFG > SIM and remove before flight tags, wheel chocks, ladder, and towbar.

  • Canopy > CLOSE

On the SMFD Engines Page, select CNTL menu (engine control menu).

  • APU switch > START
  • Pump (L) > ON
  • IGN (L)> ON
  • STRT (L) > PRESS (or use the FADEC paddle switch and red Motor button to start engine)

Repeat the above steps to start the right engine.

  • ATC > request clearance.
  • RPM > CHECK (both engines at 25%)
  • Generators > ON
  • APU > OFF

Taxi

  • ATC > request taxi clearance.
  • Taxi light > ON
  • Parking brake > RELEASE
  • Start taxiing to runway threshold.

Before Takeoff

  • ATC > request take-off clearance.
  • BARO > SET
  • Exterior lights > ON
  • Line up runway centre.

Takeoff

  • Rotate > 140 to 170 knots
  • Pitch > 10-12deg (max 15deg)

Climb

  • Best climb speed > between 300 and 350 knots

Autopilot

  • Master > ON
  • SRC (source) > GPS
  • Autothrottle > ON
  • NAV > ON
  • Speed (SPD) > SET
  • ALT / VS > SET ALT and VS (press VS LOCK to climb/descend)

Cruise

  • Best cruising altitudes > between 37,000 and 45,000 feet
  • Target cruise Mach number > between 0.86 and 0.90

Supercruise

  • Optimal altitude > between 30,000 and 40,000 feet (just over Mach 1.8)
  • Efficient altitude > 48,000ft and above

Descent

  • ALT > SET
  • VS > SET (-4000ft/min)
  • BARO > SET

Approach and Landing

  • Angle of attack > 12deg
  • On final > about 10deg pitch
  • Descent rate > 400 to 500ft/min
  • Landing speed > 127 to 130 KCAS

Landing and Landing Roll-out

  • Airbrake > deploy upon landing
  • Nose up > between 10 and 13deg
  • at 100 knots > apply wheel brakes
  • when below 30 knots > retract speed brakes
  • Exit runway
  • ATC > request parking clearance.
  • Start taxiing to gate/parking.

Engine / Aircraft Shutdown

  • Parking brake > SET
  • Pump > OFF
  • IGN > OFF

Repeat the above steps for the other engine.

  • Generators > OFF
  • APU > OFF
  • Interior and exterior lights > OFF
  • Battery > OFF
