In this post, I’m going to share with you how I created a contact page on my site so that people who visit my site (if there’s any…) can contact me at any time.
Why Create a Contact Form
What is a contact form? And why do you need one?
A contact form is simply a page on your site that allows visitors to communicate with you.
Say, for example, they have a message to convey, some questions to ask or perhaps they just wanted to get in touch with you, it would be convenient if they have a place on your site to do such things right?
Why not just put out your phone number or an email address?
You definitely can but why would you do that?
Ask yourself, would you be available 24/7 to answer anonymous phone calls? Don’t you think it would be much better to give people a way to contact you even when you’re not available?
Another thing, once your site goes live, people from all over the internet can see them. If you want to avoid receiving lots of unwanted emails or phone calls, your best bet is to simply provide a contact form.
Creating a Contact Form
To create a contact form, follow these 4 simple steps.
- Install Ninja Forms.
- Customize the pre-built form.
- Create a contact page.
- Add the contact page to your menu.
Step 1. Install Ninja Forms.
I use a plugin called Ninja Forms and this allows me to easily create a form in WordPress.
Why Ninja Forms?
When I was browsing for a theme, I noticed that the live demo from StudioPress were using Ninja Forms. Since I’m using their theme, I thought I should go with it as well.
I believe there are a lot of other plugins out there you can use to create a simple contact form. I just found this plugin easy to setup and that’s why I recommend it as well.
You can download it directly from their website or from WordPress and then upload it to your site.
Otherwise, look it up from the Plugins section on your WordPress dashboard and then install it.
After you install the plugin, make sure to activate it. When you’re done, go to Ninja Forms and start customizing.
Step 2. Customize the pre-built form.
Once you’ve installed the plugin, you’ll find that there’s already a pre-built contact form that you can use. Just click on the form to customize it.
There are 3 main settings to customize…
- Form Fields
- Emails and Actions
I left most of the settings to its default. The only thing I did was to disable the form title so it wouldn’t show up on the page I’d be creating.
Go to Advanced > Display Settings. From there, you can disable the Display Form Title option. Then click on Done to save changes.
Step 3. Create a
To create a contact page, click on Pages > Add New from your WordPress dashboard.
Enter the title of the page and type in a few details about that page. Here’s an example…
Next, on the Document section of the page, click on Append a Ninja Form and select the form to be used.
When you’re done, click on Publish to make the page go live.
Step 4. Add the contact page to your menu.
Once everything’s set, all you have to do is to add that contact page to your menu so it would be visible to your visitors.
