Flight plan

  • Create a flight plan on SimBrief.
  • Export files to MSFS and PMDG folders (including wind uplink) using the SimBrief Downloader app.

Power up

  • Battery – ON
  • Ground power – REQUEST / ON (once available)
  • Emergency exit lights – ARM
  • IRS – NAV
  • Parking brake – SET (press brakes to engage)
  • ELEC hydraulic pumps – ON

Fuel and Payload

  • Fuel – CHECK / SET (roundup block fuel + 100kg)
  • Payload – CHECK / SET (use EZFW)
  • Ground services – REQUEST / START (optional)

FMC Setup

  • Pos init – SET (use GPS or LAST POS)
  • Route – REQUEST / LOAD
  • Departure / Arrival – SET PROCEDURES
  • Init ref – REQUEST / LOAD (update plan, cost index, wind, and trans alt)
  • Fix info – SET (fix: dep airport code; radial: /20)
  • Descent – SET (spd rest: 250/10000); REQUEST / LOAD (descent winds; then adjust trans alt and QNH)
  • Legs – CHECK ROUTE (use EFIS plan; fix discontinuity)

EFIS

  • EFIS – SET (both pilot and officer’s side)
  • Range – SET (10/20nm)
  • Baro – SET (in/hpa)
  • Traffic/terrain/airport – ENABLE

Overhead panels

  • Yaw damper – ON
  • Fuel pumps – ON (L FWD)
  • Circuit/panel lights – AS REQUIRED
  • Seatbelts – AUTO / ON (once refueling is complete)
  • Window heat – ON
  • Probe heat – OFF (turn ON when OAT below 3 degrees, rain, or snow)
  • Wing and Eng anti-ice – OFF (check/confirm)
  • Hydraulic pumps – ON (check/confirm)
  • Diff Press / Cabin Climb – ZERO (check/confirm)
  • Air temperature – PASSENGER CABIN
  • Temperature settings – AUTO / AS REQUIRED
  • Recirc fan – AUTO (check/confirm)
  • Packs – AUTO
  • Isolation valve – OPEN (check/confirm)
  • Engine bleed – ON (check/confirm)
  • APU bleed – OFF (check/confirm)
  • Flight altitude – SET (refer to flight plan / SimBrief)
  • Landing altitude – SET (check destination/runway elevation -50ft)
  • ALTN (pressurization) – AUTO (check AUTO/MAN light NOT illuminated)
  • Lights – OFF (except for POS light; when dark, use logo/wheel well lights)
  • Engine knob – OFF (check/confirm)
  • Ignition – IGN R (use both if cold)
  • APU – AS REQUIRED
  • Taxi/landing/runway turnoff lights – OFF (check/confirm)

Electronic Flight Instrument System (EFIS)

  • Flight directors – ON
  • Course – SET (use destination runway heading)
  • Speed – SET (use initial leg speed restriction)
  • Heading – SET (use depature runway heading)
  • Altitude – SET (use first expected altitude + 100ft)
  • Fuel flow – RESET TO ZERO
  • Anti-skid (autobrake) – RTO

NAV/COM settings

  • ILS/VOR frequency – SET
  • Flood/panel lights – AS REQUIRED
  • Transponder – STBY
  • Rudder/aileron trims – CENTERED (check/confirm)

Final CDU pre-flight procedures

  • N1 Limit – SET (select derate/climb setting)
  • Takeoff ref – SET (flaps 5, CG, adjust trim, set Vspeeds, and rwy length)

Before engine start

  • Request IFR clearance.
  • Altitude – SET
  • Transponder – ALT OFF
  • APU – START (check EGT rise)
  • Ground equipment – REMOVE (except for ground power)
  • APU GEN – ON (wait for illumination)
  • Ground power – DISCONNECT
  • Wheel chocks – REMOVE
  • Pushback – REQUEST / START (use PMDG or ATC)
  • Packs – OFF
  • APU bleed – ON
  • Anti-collision lights – ON
  • No smoking – ON
  • Parking brake – RELEASE (once tug is connected/pushback cleared)
  • Fuel pumps – ALL ON (except center pumps; use when fuel above 453kg/1000lbs)
  • Engine 2 – START / GRD (once aircraft beyond yellow line)
  • Fuel cutoff – RELEASE TO IDLE (once N2 reaches 25%)
  • ENG/SPAR valve – CHECK (not illuminated)
  • N1 / EGT / N2 / Oil Pressure – CHECK / CONFIRM (2/4/6/3)
  • Engine 1 – REPEAT ENGINE START PROCESS

After engine start

  • Engine generators – ON (once ENG 1 has stabilised)
  • APU – OFF
  • Start switches – CONT
  • Probe heat – ON
  • ENG/WING anti-ice – AS REQUIRED
  • Packs – AUTO
  • Isolation valve – AUTO
  • APU bleed – OFF
  • Flaps – 5
  • Engine display – MONITOR; then CLOSE (thru MFD/ENG button)
  • Flight controls – FULL AND FREE MOVEMENT
  • Recall – PRESS (near master caution)

Taxi

  • Request taxi clearance ATC.
  • Taxi/runway turn off lights – ON
  • Config check – CHECK (move thrust levers – no chimes means good)
  • Thrust levers – 30-40% N1 (to start rolling)
  • Start taxiing to runway threshold
  • Parking brake – SET

Before takeoff

  • Request takeoff clearance ATC.
  • Altimeter – SET (adjust baro/ press B to automate)
  • Strobe lights – ON
  • Landing lights – ON
  • Auto-throttle – ON / ARM
  • LNAV – ON
  • Transponder – TA/RA
  • Run before takeoff checklist (refer to yoke)
  • Config check – CHECK (move thrust lever about 70% N1)
  • Takeoff speeds – VERIFY

Takeoff and initial climb

  • Line up runway
  • Clock – START TIMING
  • Thrust – 40% (initial); then press TO/GA button (once stable)
  • Yoke – slight forward pressure up to 80kts
  • Vspeeds – ROTATE on VR (pitch not more than 20degrees)
  • Positive rate of climb – GEAR UP
  • Autopilot – ENGAGE
  • VNAV – ENGAGE
  • Flaps – MONITOR / ADJUST (check airspeed/flaps indicator)
  • Landing gear – OFF position
  • Autobrake – OFF position
  • Start switches – OFF
  • Taxi/runway turnoff lights > OFF

After takeoff

  • Run after takeoff checklist (refer to yoke)
  • Altitude – MONITOR / ADJUST
  • Temperature – CHECK (turn on ENG anti-ice when temp 10deg or less,)
  • at Transition Altitude – SET BARO STANDARD
  • Standby instruments – CHECK (if set)

Climb to cruise level

  • Altimeter – CHECK
  • Fuel – CHECK
  • Lights – OFF (except pos/anti-collision)
  • Pressure/AC panel – CHECK (at every 10K altitude)
  • Cabin temp – CHECK
  • Seatbelts – AUTO / OFF (if no turbulence)
  • Recall – PRESS / CHECK
  • Engine antiice – ON (if temp below 10c or passing through clouds)
  • Altitude – SET (as per ATC; verify PFD/FMC crz alt/vnav)
  • at FL300 – use 10 degrees angle of bank
  • Rate of climb – use 2,000ft/min or 1,000ft/min (when leveling)
  • VS – CHECK (if losing speed, switch to VNAV)
  • at cruise level – SET N1 limit max cont thrust

Cruise

  • Approach charts – CHECK
  • Fix info – SET (use destination runway)
  • Rad/Dis – 3 RINGS (/TOD; /10 for 200kts and Flaps 1; /5 for landing gear)
  • Legs/route – CHECK SPEEDS/ALT RESTRICTIONS CHART
  • ILS/VOR frequency – CHECK
  • Course – SET ILS/RUNWAY COURSE
  • Minimums (baro) – SET BARO/RADIO

Descent

  • Altitude – SET (adjust per ATC)
  • VS – 3,000ft/min (switch back to VNAV when ALT acquired)
  • Bank angle – CHECK / ADJUST (use 25 degrees if above FL300)
  • Fix info – SET (use destination runway; then /TOD, /10nm, and /5nm)
  • at 15,000ft – SEATBELTS ON
  • below 10,000ft – 220kts/flaps 5; 180kts/flaps 10 (use speedbrake)

Approach

  • Confirm route/procedure
  • Heading – SET (use runway heading)
  • Airspeed – ADJUST (becomes manual control when G/S locks)
  • at 10NM – switch to APP mode
  • at 4-5NM – LANDING GEAR DOWN
  • Flaps – 15
  • IGN switches – CONT
  • Speed brake – ARM
  • Landing gear – 3 GREENS (check/confirm)
  • Flaps – 30
  • Autothrottle – DISCONNECT
  • Speed – VREF + 5

Landing

  • at 1,000ft – STABLE (if not, go around unless emergency)
  • Airspeed – within VREF + 20
  • Vertical – on GLIDE PATH
  • Papi – 3R/3W
  • Thrust – 40-50%
  • Landing checks – COMPLETED (see yoke)
  • Vertical Speed – CHECK ( less than 1,000ft/min)
  • Flaps – 30
  • Thrust – IDLE on touchdown
  • Thrust Reverser – ACTIVATE upon touchdown
  • at 80kts – apply MANUAL BRAKING

After landing

  • Vacate runway
  • Tranponder – ALT OFF
  • Flaps – RETRACT
  • Speed brake – STOW
  • Autobrake – OFF
  • ISFD – OFF
  • Flight directors – OFF
  • Probe heat – OFF
  • Pos light – ON
  • IGN switches – OFF
  • Landing lights – OFF
  • Taxi lights – ON

Taxi to gate/parking

  • Request gate/parking ATC
  • Strobe – OFF (turn ON when crossing runways)
  • APU – START (when near gate; takes 1 min to start up)
  • Taxi lights – OFF (when approaching the gate)

Shutdown (transit procedure)

  • APU – ON
  • Engine – CUTOFF
  • Seatbelts – OFF
  • No smoking – OFF
  • Isolation valve – OPEN
  • Transponder – STBY
  • Anti-collision lights – OFF (when N2 below 20%)
  • Ready for the next flight (start pre-flight)

Shutdown (full procedure)

  • Fuel pumps – OFF (except L FWD)
  • Window heat – OFF
  • Electric hydraulic pumps – OFF
  • Chocks – SET
  • Parking brake – OFF (to cool brakes)
  • Ground power – REQUEST
  • Ground services (pax/cargo/bus/stairs) – REQUEST
  • De-plane – START (confirm ground services are connected)
  • Ground power – ON
  • APU – OFF
  • Fuel pump – OFF

Secure the plane

  • De-plane complete – CHECK / CONFIRM
  • Emergency lights – OFF
  • Packs – OFF
  • IRS – OFF
  • Ground power – OFF (wait 1min for EGT to close to 0)
  • Battery – OFF
